Getting to Know Ms. Kelly

Hello!  My name is Kelly Kaifer and my students call me Ms. Kelly.  I recently moved to Colorado so this is my first year with Cheyenne Mountain School District.  I was formerly a Sign Language Interpreter for the past seven years and resided in North Carolina where I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I also have 12 years experience in Special Education, and I absolutely love what I do!

I have a daughter who will be in Kindergarten this year and we enjoy anything outdoors, as well painting, drawing, reading, and music. Our experience thus far in Colorado has consisted of many outdoor adventures, learning to bake at high altitude, and learning how to survive hail storms! I am excited to see what the future here in Colorado will bring!

Our preschool curriculum is play based while incorporating academic concepts which will prepare each student for Kindergarten. Students will be learning how to identify numbers, letters, colors, shapes, as well as writing their name. There will also be a focus on communication and social skills incorporated into each day. The structure of daily activities is carefully planned to encourage independence, self confidence, and group cooperation through large group, small group, and one on one participation in a variety of hands on, interactive experiences. I will be implementing Handwriting Without Tears curriculum that is a researched based program we feel best suits our instructional needs.

In my classroom it is important to know that each student is cared about, their ideas are valued, and I believe each and every student has unique talents and strengths which I cannot wait to discover and share with their classmates. Every one of my students belongs and will be supported and encouraged here at Canon. I consider myself a strong advocate for our children and I am a firm believer in inclusivity for all children.

Please feel free to contact me throughout the year with any concerns or questions or to simply chat about the great things your child is doing!
